Expert Advice
Everything you need to know about the 1.5 BlueHDi timing chain issue and how to protect your vehicle.
Understanding the Problem
What is the 1.5 BlueHDi Timing Chain Issue?
The PSA Group 1.5 BlueHDi diesel engine (also known as DV5RC and DV5RD) has a known design flaw affecting its timing chain system. The original engines were fitted with a 7mm timing chain that can stretch, slip, or break - often without warning.
When the timing chain fails, it causes the engine's valves and pistons to collide, resulting in catastrophic internal damage. In most cases, this means a complete engine replacement costing thousands of pounds.
PSA has since released an upgraded 8mm timing chain kit to address this issue, and we exclusively use these improved components in our repairs.
